The Local Legacy and Humble Beginnings of Turtleback Pest & Weed Control

For more than 45 years, Turtleback Pest & Weed Control has proudly protected homes and businesses throughout Sierra County. Since opening our doors in 1980, we've built our reputation on dependable service, knowledgeable technicians, and a commitment to treating every customer like a neighbor.

The Turtleback story began with Bill and Ann Halford, who founded the company in 1980. In 1997, Jim and Linda Coy took ownership and continued building the trusted reputation Turtleback is known for today. In 2023, Louis Schwab and Joanie DeBerry were honored to purchase the company, carrying forward a legacy that has served Sierra County for generations.

Preserving that legacy has always been our priority. Our goal is to continue providing the dependable, personalized service that Turtleback customers have come to expect while expanding our expertise and services to better serve our community.

Louis Schwab has spent many years as a hardworking entrepreneur and business owner. His experience leading successful businesses, including the startup and management of the Fast Stop in Elephant Butte, has given him a deep understanding of customer service, leadership, and what it takes to build a business that earns the trust of its community.

Joanie DeBerry brings a unique scientific background to Turtleback. She earned a Bachelor of Science in Agriculture Biology and a Master of Science in Entomology and Biological Control. Before joining Turtleback, she owned a pest control company and spent years teaching Biology, Chemistry, Health Science, and serving as a College and Career Counselor at Hot Springs High School. Her passion for agriculture, entomology, and science-based pest management helps ensure every treatment is both effective and environmentally responsible.

Together, Louis and Joanie combine practical business experience with scientific expertise to provide thoughtful, customized pest and weed control solutions for homes and businesses across Southern New Mexico. Then, with four highly qualified technicians and an unwavering commitment to customer satisfaction, we’re prepared to tackle any pest or weed challenge with professionalism and care.

Experienced technicians Dan Mason and Bonnie Williams remain dedicated members of Turtleback, providing the same dependable service our customers have trusted for years.
